ATTICA 3

In this unique handmade edition, the skyline of Attica is presented in a coffee toned Cyanotype, printed on Vellum and completed combining drawing and watercolour pencils.

The process begins with the Cyanotype emulsion applied on Vellum. The print is then exposed to sunlight and finally developed in water. Once fully developed, the print needs to rest in a bath of tannin for one to two days. There, the classic light blue Cyanotype tones will gradually give way to rich blue-black tones, which depending on the subject add depth and character to the print.

The final image will be over-coloured so the Vellum needs to go through one more bath. This is an "etching" one, where excess surface colour is carefully removed making sure the image detail remains intact. This bath is very crucial since Vellum is delicate and the repeating baths push the paper to its structural limits. Once these steps are completed the print will need to dry and get pressed before colouring begins.  

In this edition, the print was over-coloured using a combination of drawing and watercolour pencils.
